How to Stay Centered

Hey y’all,

It’s hard not to acknowledge what is happening on the other side of the world, with it being highly televised and discussed on social media. Staying grounded in the face of challenging times can be difficult, but it is possible with the right strategies. Here are some tips to help you stay centered in light of what's going on:

1. Practice Gratitude

Take time every day to reflect on the things you're grateful for. Focusing on the positive aspects of your life can shift your perspective! For example, set aside a few minutes each morning to write it down in a journal or a digital note-taking app. Reflect on the positive aspects of your life, both big and small.

2. Stay Informed, but Limit Exposure

It's essential to stay informed about current events, but excessive exposure can be overwhelming and depressing. Set boundaries on how much news you consume. For example, allocate specific times during your day to catch up on the news. Avoid checking news updates constantly, which can be distracting and instill anxiety.

3. Practice Mindfulness and Meditation

These practices can help you stay in the present moment, reduce stress, and increase your ability to manage difficult emotions. For example, do a body scan and bring your awareness to your physical sensations. Start from your toes and work your way up to your head, noticing any tension, discomfort, or relaxation. Release any tension you encounter. You can also use guided meditation apps.

4. Volunteer or Help Others

Acts of kindness and helping those in need can boost your sense of purpose and positivity. Remember that volunteering is not just about giving; it's also about personal growth and the sense of fulfillment that comes from making a difference in the lives of others. Whether you have a few hours a week or just a few hours a month to spare, your contributions as a volunteer can have a meaningful impact.

Cheers,
