Join the Movement: Elevate Black Entrepreneurs This Month!

It would be remiss to not mention that August is Black Business Month, a month dedicated to recognizing and supporting Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. The observance encourages consumers to shop and utilize services at Black-owned businesses, and it aims to highlight the importance of economic empowerment within the Black community. It was started in 2004, created by author John William Templeton and engineer Frederick E. Jordan Sr., to help Black-owned businesses get more attention and succeed.

Let’s make a toast to some of our favorite Black-owned business beverage shops!

After a short hiatus, Rhonda and her team are back in Pike Place Market, handcrafting organic juices at rōJō Juice! Her drinks are made using a cold press process where organic vegetables and fruits are ground down and then pressed into a cloth. Without any added ingredients or sugar, the juice remains in a pure form — extracted from the produce, which Faison goes to great lengths to ensure is fully organic! Make sure to stop by Mon, Thursday through Saturday from 9 am -5 pm and Sunday from 10 am - 4pm.

Owner Solomon Dubie launched Café Avole to share single origin Ethiopian coffee with Seattle. The bright, fruitful beans are roasted locally in Georgetown and are a reminder of his family’s heritage. At Café Avole, the espresso bar features a variety of drinks made with Ethiopian coffee, but the most popular is the lavender latte. There are also iced drinks like Genesee Tea, made with black tea, lemon, and blueberry syrup. Check out one or both of his locations in Rainier Beach or the Central District.

Community is at the heart of Bridgette’s cafe, a cozy spot nestled in a 1920’s brick building in Seattle’s Central District, a mostly residential neighborhood located east of downtown and First Hill. Central Cafe & Juice Bar is an eco-conscious cafe offering espresso coffees, fresh pressed juice lattes, smoothies, and teas alongside pastries and deli items. Should we also mention they are proud to join the Eco Packaging Alliance? Contributing to global reforestation one tree at a time, for every order they make noissue.® plants a tree for them in areas of need.

Cheers,
