Lessons Learned: Understanding the power of moving with the seasons
As the Founder and Owner of Indigo Movement, I want to take the month of January to share the lessons I’ve learned and grew from in 2024. 2024 has been a journey of understanding the power, importance, and symbolism of moving with the seasons.
Winter = Slowing down, Reflecting, and Hibernating
2024 reminded me of the immense value of winter. Winter is a time of yin energy for slowing down, reflecting and turning inward, and honoring our deep need for rest and relaxation over constantly 'doing.'' As we all know, this is a counter message to what Western society encourages. During my time of yin, I found it best to spend my winter in the Caribbeans. Y'all know I LOVE heat, humidity, and sun! Slowing down (just existing with the people around me), reflecting (acknowledging where Indigo Movement has been and where my company wants to go), and hibernation (resting my body and feeding my mind and spirit gently with fun forms of continuing education) that will prepare me for the awakening of spring.
Spring = Awakening, Celebrating, and Recommitment
In many traditions, spring represents a time of rebirth and rejuvenation. This time of year, our spirits begin to come alive with new ideas, feelings of hope, inspiration & excitement- it sounds like a New Year to me. Spring birthed a new space for the Indigo Movement; we had outgrown our last office (awakening). I had just finished the previous mock run of my continuing education course and was invited to teach at my first massage conference (celebration). Longer days of sunlight and warmth prepared my spirit to make a fresh start (recommitment) and handle what summer will bring.
And then there's Summer and Fall
Summer is the season of balancing, working hard and hardly working. All the things I've reflected on in the winter and recommitted to in the spring prepared me for the pace of summer. It was a time to execute- massage conference, providing massage services at several retreats, moving, building, and designing the new office. Yeah, it was a lot! While all those things were happening, I was playing the entire time. As quickly as summer started, it was quickly over. Fall was here. Fall brought the space and pace to fully admire how abundant Indigo Movement's harvest had been over the summer. My team and I rejoiced in deep gratitude for the organizations that worked with us, my client's constant support, and for reaping the rewards of the hard work. Fall also brought additional wisdom and experiences I will continue using in the future.
Love,
