Ready to Kick Some 🍑?

In celebration of Black History Month, and Black history everyday, I'd like to pay homage to black fitness instructors that have influenced and inspired me along my wellness journey.

Indigo Movement simply wouldn't exist if it weren't for them!

Growing up my parents made sure that my brother and I not only read about black people at home and in the classroom, but saw them represented in the media too. Billy Blanks Tae Bo was one of the fitness instructors I can recall as a young athlete. (How many of you remember his videos?) My family would meet in the TV room at least once a week and I, or my brother, would have the honors of choosing the Taebo workout routine for the evening. It was also one way that my family spent quality time together. Billy taught us how to throw a cross punch, jab, and side kick combo which later influenced how I taught my fitness classes, especially in water aerobics, and can be just as deadly! 🙃

Thank you Billy for paving for creating spaces for Shaun T (Hip Hop Abs), Mike Peele (choreographer and fitness instructor), Deanna Robinson, and people like me!
