I'm Looking For A New Love Baby...
Every time I would hear “Looking For A New Love” by Jody Watley playing in the family room, I knew my mom was doing her daily workout routine, and sometimes I'd join her. It was Jody's music that inspired us to get off our butts and work out at the same time while having fun!
Jody is a singer, songwriter, and record producer who's music span across pop, R&B, jazz, dance, and electronic soul. During the late 1970s and early 80s, she was a member of the R&B band Shalamar that scored many hits, mostly in the UK. In the late 80's and early 90's she tapped into the fitness scene and proved that working out didn't have to be boring (see proof of her music video here!) Later on, she also won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist and was nominated for three Grammy awards. In 2008, she was the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from Billboard magazine and was also prominently featured in the historic black issue of Vogue Italia the same year. Most recently, in March 2021, Jody was named the First Ambassador of the National Museum of African American Music. Today, her music continues to inspire a new generation of artists such as Kelly Rowland and many more.
