Fourth of July Holiday Tips
As we approach the Fourth of July holiday this week, a day cherished for its traditions of community and celebration, we at Indigo Movement want to remind you to keep safety at the forefront of your mind. Whether planning a backyard BBQ, enjoying fireworks, or spending time with loved ones outdoors, here are some important tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July for everyone!
Sun and Heat Safety:
Remember to stay hydrated throughout the day. Drink plenty of water, especially during hot weather. Brace yourself for the 80-degree weather we’re having in Seattle this Thursday!
Wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, sunglasses, and hats to protect against UV rays. Generally, sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating. My favorite sunscreen is Black Girl Sunscreen because it leaves the skin radiating, and protected from UV rays without leaving a white cast on your skin!
Fireworks Safety:
We personally like to leave the fireworks to the professionals and suggest attending one of the many 4th of July events throughout the Seattle area. You can see listings of free and ticketed events HERE! But, if you prefer to put on your own fireworks show at home, make sure to have a bucket of water or hose nearby just in case!
Don’t forget about your pets and keep them indoors as loud noises can scare them away. If they are outside make sure they have ID tags (unless they are already microchipped) in case they run away due to stress.
Grilling and Cooking Safety:
We love a backyard BBQ, so if you’re cooking at the grill, ensure you position grills away from structures, overhangs, and flammable materials. Never leave a lit grill unattended; use long-handled utensils to prevent burns!
Driving Safety:
Lastly, we know it’s hot girl summer and the girls love to be outside. If you’re going to a party, make sure you designate a sober driver beforehand or arrange for alternative transportation like Uber or Lyft if alcohol is part of your celebration. Have fun and stay safe y’all!
Cheers,
Team Indigo Movement
