Tips for Managing Stress and Anxiety.
As we close out the month of May, let us continue to reduce the stigma associated with mental health conditions, encourage open conversations, and provide support to those affected. Below are some additional strategies and tips to support and improve your mental health.
Stress management
Relaxation Techniques: Engage in activities that help you relax, such as reading a book, listening to music, doing yoga, or taking a relaxing bath at the end of the day.
Hobbies: Find activities that you really enjoy that can distract and engage you. Whether it’s working out, taking an arts and crafts class, or learning a new skill.
Routine and structure
Maintain a Routine: Having a daily routine can provide a sense of normalcy and control. This can be especially hard if you work from home. Try your best to get into the habit of doing things you normally would as if you were going into the office. Wash up in the morning, change into work clothes, resist working from bed, and start your day with a healthy breakfast.
Stay Organized: Keep your environment and tasks organized to reduce feelings of chaos. Use a planner, create a to-do list, purge unnecessary items regularly, and use post-it notes as reminders.
Connect with nature
Spend time outdoors: Being in nature can have a calming effect and improve your mood. As we approach summer next month, make a conscious effort to get outside and enjoy all the attractions Washington has to offer. Visit the Pier 62 and take a workout class, drive outside the city and go for a hike, or take a ferry and explore Bainbridge Island for the day!
Gardening or walking: Simple activities like gardening or walking can help you feel more connected to the world around you. Use this time while it’s still spring, and not too hot outside, to tend to your garden.
