Don’t Be Afraid To Sweat
Every week I look forward to relaxing, recharging, and detoxing my body for 45-minute in an infrared sauna with mood light (chromotherapy) at City Sweats.
Did you know there are benefits of sweating, such as detoxing your skin - which as you know is the largest organ? The truth is, your body is already on its own detox schedule through a variety of systems, but there are things you can do such as exercise, sunbath while wearing sunscreen, or soaking in the tub to help it perform.
The primary detox organs are the liver and kidneys, but sometimes they're not able to get rid of certain toxins because the load is too large. And what doesn't leave your body gets stored in the fat so the body gets rid of it through a secondary system: sweat. Multiple studies have shown heavy metals like arsenic, lead, and mercury in sweat after exercise (and saunas), which brings an important piece of advice: skincare! Make sure after spin class, yoga, or any exercise really that you use soap and water in the shower. The soap will help carry away the fat-soluble toxins because if you don’t use soap, they’re just going to get reabsorbed through the skin, and all that hard work was for nothing when it comes to detoxing at least!
