Black Businesses You Should Know

Hey y’all,

It would be remiss of me to not acknowledge some of my favorite Black businesses during Black History Month or Black Future Month, depending on who you ask! It's an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the African Diaspora (Caribbean, Afro-Latin, African, Black American, and Aborigines) throughout the world.

Before I shout out some amazing Black-owned businesses that are adding tremendous value to the health, wellness, nutrition, and fitness industries, I challenge you to dive deeper into Blackness beyond this month. Dive deeper into other melanated communities beyond reading and watching documentaries. Be intentional by putting yourself in communities where you are the "other". In this human experience, we must empathize beyond tragedy and stop believing we're cultured because we read melanated literature or attend art exhibits.

One of the many things my parents instilled in me was the ability to communicate and interact with different cultures. They understood Black children would need this tool to help navigate throughout the world, find deep connections amongst those who don't look like them, and understand how we ALL collectively play into "whiteness" globally - colorism, classism, and racial stereotypes to name a few. We all have continual work to do and it doesn't have an endpoint. Talking about race becomes easier when we accept the principle the Teacher will always learn from the Student and the Student will always learn from the Teacher- aka your a foolish goat- Nigerian saying. :)
