The Power of Voice in Celebrating Black Joy
As we wrap up our Black Joy series and move into Women's History month, it was fitting to talk about, the transformative power of the human voice. From the resonant hum of a spiritual, to the unfiltered honesty of poetry, to the triumphant cadence of hip-hop, the voice has been a vessel of expression, liberation, and connection for centuries. Black voices, in particular, have shaped culture worldwide, carrying messages of struggle, resistance, love, and—most importantly—joy.

Celebrating Black Joy: Tiana's Journey to Finding Peace in Water
At Indigo Movement, we believe that joy is an act of self-preservation, healing, fellowship, and empowerment. Let us continue on the theme of celebrating Black Joy and how our founder has found peace and purpose through movement.

Embracing Black Joy Through Nature: Tiana's Story
Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Tiana always felt nature’s call. From a young age, she would go hiking on Mount Rainier and Rattlesnake Ledge, compete in the Emerald City Open Water swim in Lake Washington, and spend time in the winter tubing at Snoqualmie Pass, memories that defined her childhood. Nature wasn’t just a backdrop—it was home.

Riding Into Joy: Tiana’s Love for Horses & the Legacy of Black Equestrians
In the summer of her 5th-grade year, Tiana attended a camp that changed her life. Among the many activities, it was horseback riding that captured her heart. The feeling of freedom, the gentle strength of the horses, and the connection she felt in the saddle ignited a joy she carries to this day. Now, whenever she travels and has the opportunity to ride horses, she seizes it—each experience a reminder of that first magical summer.

The Joy of Dance: Movement, Expression, and Community
At Indigo Movement, we celebrate all forms of movement that help reclaim joy, self-expression, and connection! One of the most powerful ways to experience this is through dance. Side note: did you know our founder, Tiana is also a dancer? Whether it’s in a class, at the club (LOL), or in the privacy of your own home (don’t be shy!), dancing unlocks something deep within—a sense of freedom, rhythm, and release.

The Power of Joy: A Path to Freedom
Joy is often seen as fleeting or unimportant, but science tells us otherwise. Joy lowers our stress, builds resilience, and strengthens our connections with others. More than that, joy is a form of resistance. And we need it now more than ever. This Black History month Indigo Movement will celebrate Black joy!
