Self-Soothing Techniques: Self-Massage
Hey y’all,
Self-soothing techniques can be beneficial for managing stress, and grounding ourselves. Different individuals may find different methods effective, so it often involves exploring and identifying what works best for you.
Self-massage is one technique to help alleviate muscle tension, improve circulation, and promote relaxation immediately. Enjoy some of our favorite self-massage methods:
Neck and Shoulders
Technique: Use your fingertips to apply gentle pressure in circular motions along the base of your skull, the sides of your neck, and your shoulders.
Tool: A tennis ball or massage ball can be placed between your back and a wall. Lean against the ball, and roll it against the tension points in your shoulders.
Back
Technique: Roll a tennis ball or massage ball along your upper and lower back. Use your body weight against a wall or on the floor to control pressure.
Tool: Foam rollers are also effective for the back. Lie on the roller and roll it along your spine, focusing on areas of tension.
Hands
Technique: Gently massage each finger and the palm of your hand using circular motions. Stretch and flex your fingers to release tension.
Tool: Hand-held massage tools with rollers or nodules can be used to stimulate acupressure points.
Legs and Calves
Technique: Use your hands to knead and massage your thighs and calves. Apply pressure using your thumbs and fingers in circular motions.
Tool: A foam roller can be used to roll along the length of your thighs and calves. Focus on areas of tightness.
