My Approach To Massage

Hey y’all,

Ask and you shall receive! Over the summer, I was asked by multiple clients about my approach to massage therapy, so I thought, why not spend the month of September sharing more about my style of treatment during a client’s session.

At Indigo Movement, we understand not all massage therapy treatments are the same because every person has a particular need whether it’s alleviating pain, reducing stress, or aiding with the healing process of a new or old injury, just to name a few. In addition, everyone may not have the same tolerance for pain and every body reacts differently to different modalities.

Whenever I'm working with a client I assess the style of massage based on their lifestyle and what’s currently going on in their life. I assess environmental stressors, any hormonal changes (pregnancy, menopause, etc.) or new or chronic repetitive movements. I gather this information during the “intake” process which is before a client gets on the massage table. As the client updates me on their life, I'm taking note of their posture, breathing, and how these two things may change as the client shares their current life events.

You may be wondering, how can I create a treatment plan just from listening? We’ll stay tuned for next week’s newsletter as I dive into the importance of palliation. In the meantime, tell your Portland friends and family members to schedule a session at our Portland location off South East Division Street.

Cheers,

Tiana
